Facebook has reported an 11% leap in profit in the third quarter of 2015, driven by a surge in add sales. The world’s largest social media site saw profits rise to €4.1bn and claims that it now has more than 1bn daily users. That’s one in every seven people worldwide.
The figures released by Facebook represent a 17% increase in daily users year on year, and a 41% increase in profits compared to the same quarter last year. Advertising revenue was the main driver for this trend, rising 45% year on year.
“We had a good quarter and got a lot done.” said a satiated Mark Zuckerberg; Facebook’s founder and world’s richest hoodie aficionado.
“We’re focused on innovating and investing for the long term to serve our community and connect the entire world.”

The increase in users accessing the Facebook mobile app, up 27% year on year, has also driven a huge increase in ad revenue on mobile. Mobile advertising revenue made up around 78% of advertising revenue for the third quarter of 2015, up from 66% of advertising revenue in the same period last year.
Getting ads right on mobile has long been a problem for advertisers, with a whole Tumblr set aside just for those moments when brands get it wrong, but it’s clearly something advertisers will have to get to grips with before long. Ever increasing amounts of people are organising their social life through apps, and studies showing that mobile adverts are far more effective than their desktop cousins.
