Ovum, an analytic and consultancy firm based in London conducted a survey of 65 industry experts to determine how smart cities are going to evolve in the coming years, what their objectives should be and how best to utilise new technologies to put citizens at the heart of cities.

The report argues that big data and analytics are at the core of “smart discussions”, and vital to the delivery of a successful smart city. It also asserts that more people with digital skills are required to make it work and, critically, citizens must engage with the scheme in order for it to work.

The report also references the importance of funding, having an appropriate governance structure already in place and prioritising infrastructure, transport, energy and health early in the process of making a city smarter.

The report’s themes will be explored in a number of debates at Ovum’s 5th Annual Smart to Future Cities / Urban IoT 2016 on 26th & 27th April 2016 at the Amba Marble Arch Hotel in London.
