Barcelona’s status as a world leading smart city has long been assured, long before Juniper Research’s study naming it the most effective smart city in the world. Websays has covered Barcelona’s developments in travel as it gets ever smarter, beginning with an analysis of the public’s reaction to new tram proposals.
With the approach of the annual Smart City Expo, we have turned our analysis to a particular set of topics between October 10 – November 10.
We have been able to identify a number of issues that are of importance not only to the citizens of Barcelona, but to the local and Spanish governments as well. The colours of the rectangles represent citizen’s sentiment, the more unhappy the citizens are with an issue, the lower the score and the redder the rectangle.
Some of the topics contain smaller topics to show a breadth of issues and opinion, for instance, the large topic of transport is broken down into bikes, buses, trams, public transport in order to identify what issues are being discussed most.
The people of Barcelona are most unhappy about the roads and infrastructure, closely followed by transparency, and then security concerns. They are happiest about wi-fi by some margin, with education and tourism trailing some way behind.
Social media users are most ambivalent about the cycle routes, with an almost perfectly neutral reaction to them. Over the next week we’ll be taking a more in depth look at these numbers, and breaking down what’s really making Barcelonan’s tick.
Websays will be at the Smart City Expo in Barcelona November 17-19th, Hall P2 , Street A , Stand 201.
